The LSU System President takes over your university! I mean, it will be worse with Lombardi in charge than with Tim Ryan in charge. The questions are: how much worse and how soon? That's all I have to say on the subject at this stage. Students and faculty have been organizing against the governor's budget cuts since last year. We'll just add this to our list of injustices flung in the direction of UNO from Baton Rouge.
I didn't fire up the computer to talk about the UNO crisis. I wanted to talk about how nice it is not to work at a grocery store! In addition to the fact that working at Whole Foods meant that I worked, literally at least 8 hours a day, every day in a week, it also meant that I put up with a lot of rich people bullshit. Being relatively free of rich people bullshit makes me a happy person! I've spent the whole day so far working on my literature review (and breathing small sighs of relief that this is easier than preparing for stupid comps), and I'm not angry or exhausted. Had I spent the day so far working on my lit review and was now getting ready to go to Whole Foods and make rich people feel smarter and better because they're shopping their way to enlightenment, I'd be radiating frustration. Instead, I'm going to the Work Room's party and then to a book release party. Hooray! All of this to say: this is what life is supposed to be like. People like me need downtime, constant working is for suckers.
What a good day: I spent the morning thinking thoughts, and reading (boring) articles on authenticity and tourism, now I'm grading papers, later, I get to stop doing all that and do fun things. It's amazing how the simplest things make me happy.
